Facility
Our 20,000 square foot facility boasts spacious classrooms, an extensive library, renovated gymnasium, state-of-the art Mac computer room and wireless network.
Campus
The 7 acre campus includes a baseball diamond, soccer field, play structure, beautiful Peace Garden and a safe and convenient drop-off lane.
Security
The school has a strict safety protocol – the facility is equipped with security cameras and all visitors must report to the office as all entrances are locked during school hours. Entrances are unlocked during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up only.
Computers
The school has a Mac Lab with MacPro labtops and wireless network.
Bus service
Wheatley provides a bus service available for pick up or take home.
Extended hours program
Extended hours of operation 7:30am – 8:40am
and 3:45 – 5:30pm.
Special services
Arrangements can be made with a speech language pathologist, a Psychologist or other specialty service provider required for testing or student support.
Art
The school has a dedicated art room and qualified teachers who deliver a weekly art program.
Drama
Students participate in weekly drama classes and each spring, students from grades 1 – 8 perform a musical. Past productions have included, The Music Man Jr., Annie, HMS Pinafore, Ebenezer and Friends.
Music
All students from Toddler to grade 8 participate in the music program. Students in grades 1 to 8 have instrumental instruction.
Choir
Wheatley has a Junior and Senior choir school choir which performs at various community events such as The Niagara Ice Dogs and local senior citizens centres.
Piano lessons
Piano teachers visit the school during the day to provide private lessons to interested students.
Physical education enrichment activities
Aside from our regular physical education program, students are also given the opportunity to participate in the following enrichment activities: rock climbing. bowling, tennis, horseback riding and golf.
Cross country meets
Wheatley holds cross country meets in the Fall and invites other local schools to participate.
Homework
Grades 5-8 students manage a homework website. Parents are invited to log on to ws-info.net to view the progress.
Lunchroom
There are two sittings for lunch: Casa to Grade 2 and Grade 3 to 8 students. There is a lunch room supervisor and two additional teachers on duty at all times. Wheatley works with a local chef to offer nutritious hot lunches to students.
Field trips
Wheatley students enjoy a variety of field trips throughout the year. Past trips have included Stratford, Warner Pumpkin Ranch and the Westfield Heritage Village.
Litterless Lunches
The ‘Boomerang’ lunch program reduces the amount of waste produced at lunch. Waste is returned home for recycling and disposal which has reduced our lunch waste to 1/3.
Upper elementary school trip
Each spring students take a 4 day trip to a Canadian city. Past trips include Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City and Sudbury.
Camps
Grades 1-2 attend Camp Wetaskiwin in May
Grades 3-4 attend Camp Mulmur in May
Grades 5-8 attend Camp Kandalore in February
Upper elementary attends Camp Wetaskiwin in September
Skiing
Every winter, a ski day is planned for Upper Elementary students.
Student Council
Each Fall, students are elected to sit on the Student Council and participate in student government.
School clubs
Wheatley has several student organized clubs that follow their own interests. Some of these clubs include: chess club, drama club, dance club, cooking club and book club.
Peace garden
Wheatley has a beautiful memorial garden on the campus which is in a constant state of growth and change.
Peace celebrations
Wheatley participates in International Peace Day with thousands of other Montessori schools around the world.

Parent guild
The Parent Guild is a group of parent volunteers who support the School by creating many spirit building activities and fund raising opportunities. Their goal is to foster a sense of community among students, parents and staff, as well as enhance the School’s environment.
Uniform shop
Our uniform shop is conveniently located in the school. Uniform orders are placed twice a month and are available for pick up in the shop. Shop hours and appointment sheets are posted.
Coffee with the Principal
Once a month, Mrs. Varalli holds ‘coffee with the Principal’ where parents can drop by for a casual discussion on school life.
Orientation and parent education workshops
Wheatley provides parent information and workshops throughout the year. Parents attend workshops to familiarize themselves with their child’s curriculum and learn how to support their child’s learning.
‘Come and see what I can do’ day
Every January, parents are invited to ‘Come and see what I can do’ day where Casa students show their parents what they have learned.
‘Come and see’ music day
A wonderful opportunity to see what your child is doing in music. Available to toddler and Casa parents.
Grandparents day
In April, Grandparents are invited to visit their grandchild’s class to share in their learning experience.
Grub days
The last Friday of every month is designated Grub Day. Students are invited to bring in a “toonie” and wear clothing other than the school uniform. All money collected goes towards various charities including: the Terry Fox Run, Community Care or foster children.
Family day free skating
This year, the Parent Guild will host the second annual ‘Family Day Free Skate’ in Niagara-on-the-lake.
Pizza pasta days with Boston Pizza
Twice a month, students enjoy a pizza or pasta lunch. This is a Fundraiser organized by the Parent Guild.
Spring dance-a-thon
Each year in April, we host a dance-a-thon to raise money for school projects. Monies raised have contributed to stage curtains, a new gym floor and improvements to our outdoor environment.
Public speaking competition
This competition is held each year in February starting in grade 1 and winners go on to compete in the city’s Canadian Royal Legion and the Optimist Club competition.
Family literacy week
Parents, grandparents and members of the community are invited to come in and read with the students. One year, even the mayor came!
Science fair
Students complete a science fair experiment each year starting in grade 1 which cumulates in a school science fair. Candidates also participate in a regional Science Fair held at the Brock University.
Talent show
Every year our talented students and teachers volunteer to perform in a Talent Show. It is wonderful to see all of the singers, dancers, musicians and magicians that are just waiting to be discovered!
Guest speakers
Guest Speakers visit the school and give workshops on relevant topics for parents and students. Past guest speakers have included Ron Morrish ‘Secrets of Discipline’ and Stan Shapiro ‘Practical Parenting’.
Welcome and year-end picnic
Each September, parents and students enjoy our ‘welcome picnic’. It is a wonderful chance to reconnect and to meet new families. The last day of school marks the ‘annual year end picnic’. It is a great way to end the school year and kick off the summer.
