| The
Classroom Environment
...
In
the Montessori Preschool classroom, the teacher
creates a positive environment that encourages
the child to develop positive self image, independence,
language skills, focus and concentration, good
listening, self-awareness, self-control and
the love of learning. The classroom also provides
chidren
with a setting in which to develop appropriate
social skills such as peaceful resolutions to
conflict.
This environment, the "Prepared Environment,"
is divided into 5 main areas: Practical
Life—to develop concentration
and attention to detail; Sensorial—to
distinguish, categorize and relate new information
to that already learned; Cultural—an
introduction to geography, zoology, biology
and history; Language—encompasses
both writing and a phonetic basis for reading;
and Mathematics—using
concrete materials, leading to the understanding
of abstract concepts.
Our accredited Montessori teachers, create
a safe, success-oriented environment where each
child has the opportunity to experience hands-on,
individualized learning and to enjoy his or
her own accomplishments. Montessori’s
unique materials are attractive, tactile, concrete
and self-correcting. Children experience the
lessons through many senses. Each child chooses
and progresses through the lessons at his or
her own pace. This allows each child to work
at his/her appropriate level in each area—striving
to reach his or her own potential. |
